Details

Scheme as reported for the 2026 SSC JE examination (confirm the exact wording in the SSC notice on ssc.gov.in before you rely on it).

Paper-I is a computer-based test of 200 multiple-choice questions for 200 marks in 2 hours. A correct answer earns 1 mark and a wrong answer loses 0.25 mark. General Intelligence and Reasoning has 50 questions, General Awareness has 50, and General Engineering in your own branch has 100. From 2026 Paper-I is described as qualifying only, so your rank is decided by Paper-II.

General Intelligence and Reasoning: analogies, classification, series, coding and decoding, blood relations, direction sense, ranking and order, syllogism, calendar and clock, mathematical operations, statement and conclusion, and figure-based problems such as space visualisation.

General Awareness: current events, history and culture, geography, the economic scene, general polity, general science and scientific research.

Civil and Structural Engineering: building materials, estimating, costing and valuation, surveying, soil mechanics and foundations, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, hydrology and irrigation, environmental engineering, transportation engineering, concrete and RCC, steel structures, strength of materials and structural analysis, and construction management.

Mechanical Engineering: thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and machines, heat transfer, strength of materials, theory of machines, machine design, IC engines, refrigeration and air conditioning, power plant engineering, manufacturing and production engineering, engineering mechanics, and industrial engineering with metrology.

Electrical Engineering: basic electrical engineering, circuit theory, electromagnetism and magnetic circuits, electrical machines, power systems, measurements and instruments, control systems, analog and digital electronics, power electronics and drives, utilisation of electrical energy, and signals and systems.

Practise on Pratiyogita Kosh: full-length SSC JE Paper-I mocks for each branch are at pratiyogitakosh.com/exams/ssc-je. They are original practice questions in this pattern, not official papers, and they do not include figure-based reasoning or current-affairs items.

How to use this

  1. Attempt the reasoning and awareness sections first; they are quick marks.
  2. Make sure you clear the qualifying marks, then spend most of your preparation time on Paper-II.
  3. Revise the formula lists of your own branch.
  4. Take full 200-question mocks in 120 minutes.
