Using an answer key properly

A provisional answer key is a draft. The conducting body invites objections, reviews them with experts and then publishes a final key, which can change some answers or even drop a question.

To estimate your score, match your marked responses with the key, add marks for correct answers and subtract the negative marking given in the notice. If the paper had several shifts, remember that normalisation may change the final figure.

When you raise an objection, attach a reliable reference such as a standard textbook page. Objections without proof are normally rejected.

  • Download your response sheet before the link expires.
  • Check the fee per objection; it is often refundable if accepted.
  • Compare shift-wise difficulty before judging a cut-off.

Frequently asked questions

Will the final answer key be different?

It can be. Questions may be corrected, have multiple valid options or be removed after objections are reviewed.

Is the answer key enough to predict selection?

It gives a good estimate of your raw score, but selection depends on the cut-off, which is known only after the result.

How many objections can I raise?

There is generally no limit, but each one may carry a fee. See the post for the rule of that exam.
