Exam pattern

Prelims

Paper 1 - GS (150 questions, 200 marks): current events, Indian and UP history, geography, polity, economy, science, environment. Paper 2 - CSAT (100 questions, 200 marks): comprehension, reasoning, maths at qualifying level. One-third negative marking. Prelims is screening only.

Mains

Eight descriptive papers: Hindi, Essay, GS 1 to 4, and two optional-subject papers. Recent cycles revised optional and UP-special weightage, so confirm the current paper list in the notification and prepare answer writing from the start.

UP special: UP history (Awadh, Bundelkhand, freedom movement), geography (rivers, soils, agro-climatic zones), economy (ODOP, expressways, industries), schemes, folk culture, fairs and festivals.
