The Union Government has appointed Dr Sajjan Singh Yadav, a 1995-batch AGMUT-cadre IAS officer, as the next Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, effective 1 November 2026 or the date of joining, whichever is later, succeeding Atal Dulloo.
WHAT HAPPENED
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order appointing Dr Sajjan Singh Yadav, currently Additional Chief Secretary and CEO of the Delhi Jal Board, as the next Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir.
KEY FACTS
- Yadav is a 1995-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT (Assam-Meghalaya-Manipur-Tripura, now including Delhi/UT cadre) cadre.
- He becomes the first AGMUT-cadre officer to hold the post of J&K Chief Secretary.
- Effective date: 1 November 2026, or the date of joining, whichever is later.
- He succeeds Atal Dulloo, a 1989-batch J&K-cadre IAS officer, who retires on 31 October 2026.
EXAM ANGLE
Note the cadre distinction: J&K traditionally draws its Chief Secretary from the J&K cadre; Yadav's AGMUT background makes this appointment unusual and is the detail most likely to be tested.
