Cabinet Raises MSP for Rabi Crops for 2027-28

On 30 September 2026 the CCEA approved higher Minimum Support Prices for all mandated rabi crops for the 2027-28 marketing season; wheat goes up by Rs 25 to Rs 2,610 per quintal.

WHAT HAPPENED The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) of the mandated rabi crops for the 2027-28 marketing season on 30 September 2026. The MSPs give farmers a margin of 50% to 106% over the all-India weighted average cost of production. SELECTED NEW PRICES (Rs per quintal) - Wheat: 2,610, up Rs 25. Press reports described this as the smallest increase in wheat MSP in 17 years, as wheat stocks are high. - Barley: 2,286, up from 2,150. - Gram: 5,958, up Rs 83 from 5,875. - Masur (lentil): 7,390, up Rs 390 from 7,000. - Rapeseed and mustard: 6,613, up Rs 413 from 6,200. EXAM ANGLE - MSP is announced by the CCEA on the recommendation of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). The Centre declares MSP for 22 mandated crops. - Since Budget 2018-19 the stated policy is an MSP of at least 1.5 times the cost of production (A2+FL). - Rabi crops are sown in October-December and harvested in March-April (wheat, barley, gram, masur, mustard are the standard examples).
