WHAT HAPPENED
The 20th Asian Games were held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from 19 September to 4 October 2026, with more than 11,000 athletes from 45 countries and 43 sports. India finished fourth in the medal table with 85 medals: 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. China finished first.
INDIA'S RESULT
- 85 medals is India's second-best Asian Games total. The record is 106 medals at Hangzhou in 2023.
- Gold medals came from archery (the biggest source), boxing, shooting, wrestling, hockey, kabaddi and cricket, among others.
- The men's hockey team beat Malaysia 5-1 in the final and retained the Asian Games title.
- The women's hockey team beat China 1-0 for its first Asian Games gold since 1982.
